Who We Are

MBS is a German owner-managed company specializing in secure communications and space, with around 300 employees across the group. With our own ground stations in Germany and Europe as well as operational payloads in orbit, we have been developing and operating space-based solutions for government and industrial customers worldwide for almost 50 years. Our core services include satellite communications, satellite-based intelligence, and Managed Gateways.

Working at MBS means making a direct contribution to Europe’s security infrastructure, with real responsibility from day one.

We’re looking for an Embedded Linux Engineer (m/f/d) who brings software, FPGA firmware, and build systems together into a reliable, integrated system. You’ll optimize Yocto builds, improve our GitLab CI/CD pipelines, and automate tests. Your focus: clean builds, stable pipelines, and smooth releases all the way to the embedded system.

Your Mission
  • Integrate software components and FPGA firmware into a complete system
  • Maintain and extend our Yocto-based Embedded Linux builds, including layers, recipes, and images
  • Develop our GitLab CI/CD pipelines, covering everything from builds and packaging to automated testing
  • Integrate Robot Framework tests into the pipeline and keep the test environment stable
  • Act as a go-to person for software and FPGA developers on builds, dependencies, and releases
What You'll Bring to the Mission
  • Solid knowledge of GitLab CI/CD, including pipelines, runners, and artifacts; Docker experience is a plus
  • Experience with Yocto/OpenEmbedded or comparable Embedded Linux build systems such as Buildroot
  • Confident working with Linux, shell scripting, and Python
  • Good understanding of Git workflows, including branching, merge requests, and versioning
  • Experience with Robot Framework and integrating FPGA bitstreams or firmware is a plus
  • Enthusiasm for space and space missions
Why MBS
  • Freedom, trust and ownership in your area of responsibility, with international collaboration and short decision-making paths
  • Flexible working hours through flexitime
  • Modern work equipment including a company smartphone and laptop
  • Free EV charging facilities at our headquarters in Usingen
  • Support for your professional development through tailored training opportunities
  • Permanent employment, 30 days of annual leave and employer contributions to a company pension scheme
  • Additional financial benefits including a monthly benefit card allowance and subsidized EV leasing
